Ceremonies

Bespoke Weddings

It is a privilege to be able to marry two people who love each other and choose to spend the rest of their lives together. I love meeting people, chatting with them, and working with them, from the initial contact to their wedding day. It is an incredibly happy and exciting process. Planning a wedding can be so stressful, and my role is to work with you to create your dream wedding ceremony. I will strive to make it an exciting, happy, and stress-free process!

After the initial contact I will meet up with you at a convenient location and have an informal chat. Once you have decided that I am the celebrant you want to help compose and conduct your ceremony, the work begins. I will provide samples and help you choose everything you will need to have that perfect ceremony: symbolic gestures, poetry, readings, vows/promises, the list goes on.

I will be at the venue an hour before the wedding begins to liaise with your photographer, videographer and the venue to ensure every aspect runs smoothly.

Whether you want your ceremony to be in your back garden, in a hotel, on a beach, on a boat or on a farm I am happy to accommodate. We are all unique individuals and have different ideas and styles. If you want a fun, relaxed, formal, or traditional ceremony I will listen to your thoughts and wishes and ensure you have the wedding you wish for.

I live 10 minutes from Loch Lomond, which is very popular for wedding venues. There are lots of hotels and special places to have your ceremony around the Loch. I am also happy to travel further afield.

Together we will create the ceremony you want: a very inclusive, personal and intimate ceremony that both you, your family and guests will remember forever.

Family Ceremonies

Family Ceremonies, whether a new baby or an adoption, each child is precious and how better to officially introduce them to your family and friends than a Ceremony of Welcome. This ceremony is very inclusive and allows parents and guide parents to play a formal part in introducing and naming the child.

I will work with you and provide lots of ideas for you to consider as well as listening to your wishes. We can discuss symbolic gestures, promises, candle lighting and various other options. Whether you are looking for a ceremony at home or in a venue I am happy to provide you with all the information you will need to choose from to enable me to write the perfect ceremony for your new family.

Funerals

I have been trained to the highest standard by the Humanist Society Scotland. A funeral ceremony should reflect the character and life of the person who has died. The ceremony is a celebration of life incorporating music, poetry, and a tribute to the deceased.  I find visiting bereaved families and having the ability to help them in their grief very rewarding. I feel honoured to be a part of the funeral ceremony. Families feel I am approachable, sensitive, professional, discreet and a good listener. All of this helps with the gathering of information to create a ceremony which is totally dedicated to the deceased. I strive to go the extra mile, to listen, advise, and to provide a ceremony which is a tribute and a celebration of life according to the family’s wishes.

Humanism

Humanism is about respecting each other and the environment we live in. Its simply about respecting one another and the world we live in. It’s about the thing’s in life that bring us together rather than the things that divide us.

Naming Ceremonies

Everyone is unique and deserves that special day to officially welcome them not only into the world but into a loving family.  This is a celebration not only for the parents guide parents and family, but especially for the child or the new addition to the family.  It is a unique ceremony, an inclusive one, where everyone can contribute and make it a wonderful occasion.

Don't just take our word for it..

Alanna and Dylan

“Ellen just made our wedding day seamless! We had so many friends and family comment on how personal, enjoyable and lighthearted our ceremony was and that is all thanks to Ellen. We had a few meetings with Ellen to discuss the sort of ceremony we wanted and she  captured the tone perfectly!

Also, because of how organised Ellen is it helped ease our nerves and allowed us to relax and enjoy the day for what it was.

Highly, highly, highly recommend!”

Katherina and Neil

We could not have wished for a better celebrant. Ellen was simply perfect and beyond our expectations for planning our humanist wedding ceremony. Ellen met with us multiple times, provided us with guidance and example wedding ceremony scripts, poems and little extras that could be incorporate into our ceremony. She was supportive of all our ideas, and added very suitable touches to our ceremony which we had not thought of (e.g. greeting the bride's family from Germany in German). In short, Ellen made sure that our ceremony was unforgettable with our wedding guests still commenting on it as having been the most hilarious, participatory and personal ceremony they have ever witnessed.

Kerry and Ryan

Ellen was our celebrant on 01/07/2022 and we can’t recommend her enough! Ellen made the process so straight forward and sends you everything you need when you first book, as well as some reminders along the way which is great! She made my husband very relaxed as she’s so easy to chat to. Ellen really makes it personal to you and will tailer her approach to whatever you would like.

Ellen made the ceremony so special and funny! She’s like a comedian and so quick even with the guests. Everyone said it was one of the best ceremonies they’ve been to. We loved the humour in it as it helped us to relax and it’s been an absolute pleasure watching it back in our video. The photos show just how funny it was - we loved it! We had children do some poems and she was very good with them. It was also very personal and still managed to bring in the romance, without being too soppy!

Ellen made it perfect for us 💗
